Privacy Policy
MAIL-GJ ("the app") is a desktop e-mail client made by Gerrit Jan Boeve, the Netherlands ("I", "me"). In short: the app runs on your computer, your mail is stored on your computer, and none of it is sent to me or to anyone else, except to the mail services you connect and only to do what you ask.
Data the app accesses
- Google account (Gmail): with your permission, the app accesses your Gmail messages, labels, drafts and attachments (scope
https://mail.google.com/), and your name, e-mail address and Google account ID (scopesopenid,email,profile). - Microsoft account (Outlook / Office 365): with your permission, the app accesses your mail, folders and profile through Microsoft Graph (scopes
Mail.ReadWrite,Mail.Send,User.Read,offline_access). - What you enter in the app: settings, rules, signatures, your writing style and chats with the local AI assistant.
How the data is used
- To show your mail, folders and labels in the app and keep them in sync with your mail service.
- To carry out what you do in the app: sending, replying, forwarding, saving drafts, moving, labelling, marking as read and deleting messages, and searching your mail.
- To let the local AI assistant summarize or discuss your mail and suggest text, only when you ask for it. The AI model runs on your own computer.
The data is not used for advertising, profiling, or training AI models, and it is not sold.
Where the data is stored
- Your mail, settings and AI chats are stored only on your own computer, in the app's data folder.
- Sign-in tokens are stored in your operating system's secure credential store (on Windows: Credential Manager), never in plain files.
- The app has no server of its own. Nothing is uploaded to me.
Sharing and transfer
The app only exchanges your data with the mail services you connected (Google, Microsoft), directly from your computer, to perform the functions above. No data is shared with or transferred to third parties. Nobody, including me, reads your mail; I have no access to it.
Exception you control: in the AI settings you can point the app to an AI server of your own instead of the built-in local model. If you do, the mail you ask the AI about is sent to that server, which you run or choose yourself.
The app downloads program updates (from GitHub) and AI model files (from Hugging Face and GitHub). These downloads contain no data about you or your mail.
Google API Services User Data Policy
MAIL-GJ's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data from Google is used only to provide the user-facing features described above, is not transferred to others, is not used for advertising, and is not read by humans.
Retention and deletion
- Removing an account in the app (Settings → Accounts) deletes its mail, settings and sign-in tokens from your computer.
- Uninstalling the app and deleting its data folder removes everything the app stored.
- You can revoke the app's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, and to your Microsoft account at account.live.com/consent/Manage.
Your rights
Because your data stays on your own computer, you control it directly. If you have a question about privacy or want to exercise a right under the GDPR, contact me at gerritjanboeve@gmail.com. You can also file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Children
The app is not intended for children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.

Kort gezegd: de app draait op je computer, je mail staat op je computer, en niets daarvan gaat naar mij of naar iemand anders, behalve naar de maildiensten die je koppelt, en alleen om te doen wat jij vraagt.
Welke gegevens de app gebruikt
- Google-account (Gmail): met je toestemming je Gmail-berichten, labels, concepten en bijlagen (scope

Waarvoor
- Je mail, mappen en labels in de app tonen en gesynchroniseerd houden met je maildienst.
- Uitvoeren wat jij in de app doet: versturen, beantwoorden, doorsturen, concepten bewaren, verplaatsen, labelen, als gelezen markeren, verwijderen en zoeken.
- De lokale AI-assistent je mail laten samenvatten of bespreken en tekst laten voorstellen, alleen als je daarom vraagt. Het AI-model draait op je eigen computer.
De gegevens worden niet gebruikt voor reclame, profilering of het trainen van AI-modellen, en niet verkocht.
Waar de gegevens staan
- Je mail, instellingen en AI-chats staan alleen op je eigen computer, in de gegevensmap van de app.
- Aanmeldtokens staan in de beveiligde sleutelbos van je besturingssysteem (op Windows: Referentiebeheer), nooit in gewone bestanden.
- De app heeft geen eigen server. Er gaat niets naar mij.
Delen en doorgeven
De app wisselt je gegevens alleen uit met de maildiensten die je hebt gekoppeld (Google, Microsoft), rechtstreeks vanaf je computer, om de functies hierboven uit te voeren. Er worden geen gegevens gedeeld met of doorgegeven aan derden. Niemand leest je mail, ook ik niet: ik heb er geen toegang toe.
Een uitzondering die jij zelf kiest: in de AI-instellingen kun je de app naar een eigen AI-server laten gaan in plaats van het ingebouwde lokale model. Doe je dat, dan gaat de mail waarover je de AI iets vraagt naar die server, die je zelf draait of kiest.
De app downloadt updates (van GitHub) en AI-modelbestanden (van Hugging Face en GitHub). Daarbij gaan geen gegevens over jou of je mail mee.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Het gebruik en doorgeven door MAIL-GJ van informatie die het van Google API's ontvangt, voldoet aan de Google API Services User Data Policy, inclusief de Limited Use-eisen. Gegevens van Google worden alleen gebruikt voor de functies hierboven, niet doorgegeven, niet gebruikt voor reclame en niet door mensen gelezen.
Bewaren en verwijderen
- Verwijder je een account in de app (Instellingen → Accounts), dan worden de mail, instellingen en aanmeldtokens daarvan van je computer gewist.
- Verwijder je de app en de gegevensmap, dan is alles weg wat de app bewaarde.
- Je kunt de toegang van de app tot je Google-account altijd intrekken via myaccount.google.com/permissions, en tot je Microsoft-account via account.live.com/consent/Manage.
Je rechten
Omdat je gegevens op je eigen computer blijven, heb je ze zelf in de hand. Heb je een vraag over privacy of wil je een recht onder de AVG uitoefenen, mail dan naar gerritjanboeve@gmail.com. Je kunt ook een klacht indienen bij de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Kinderen
De app is niet bedoeld voor kinderen onder de 16 jaar.
Wijzigingen
Verandert dit beleid, dan staat de nieuwe versie op deze pagina, met een nieuwe datum.
